#WFH Diaries: Roger Baldacci of Strange Animal
As lockdowns linger in many parts of the world, we're chatting with creative people to see how they're faring. Here's an update from freelancer Roger Baldacci, co-founder of creative collective Strange Animal.
Give us a one-line bio of yourself.
Hungry, hardworking, humble.
Where are you living right now, and who's with you?
Falmouth, Mass., on Cape Cod. With my wife, my two college-age daughters and my mini Australian Labradoodle Isabelle.
What's your work situation like at the moment?
Working on a rebranding effort for a piece of new business we won, a cool dot-com company. Logos and tags soon to be followed by launch ideas, mostly in the digital space.
Describe your socializing strategy.
I post snarky "Breaking News" things about me on LinkedIn hoping to give people a smile "during these uncertain times." I also keep up with friends/colleagues on Twitter, although most of my tweets are usually defending Tom Brady's honor.
How are you dealing with childcare, if applicable?
One daughter is a graduating senior (thanks, Covid!), another is a sophomore. Both are constantly on Zoom calls, as is my wife, who is a reading coach at an elementary school. I'm on Zoom calls, too. So it's a busy house.
What are you reading?
The Bible.
What are you watching?
Just finished Season 3 of Ozark. Really great. I try to watch The Office when it's on, but mostly I'll have MTV's Ridiculousness on in the background while I scroll TikTok.
What are you listening to?
The rare times I listen to music, it's usually an '80s station.
How are you staying fit?
I work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday via Zoom with Boyles Strength Camp: Conditioning. It's an instructor-led series consisting of warm-ups, plyometrics and three stages of pretty intense strength and conditioning exercises.
Have you taken up a hobby?
I have taken up meditating. I meditate for 10 minutes every morning with the Calm app. I am on a 74-day streak!
Any tips for getting necessities?
If you want toilet paper, go to Walmart. All the grocery stores are sold out, but the shelves of Walmart are stacked. Suppliers know better than to fuck with Walmart.
An awkward moment since all this started.
I went across the street to talk to my neighbor and she backed up. And I'm like "Why is she backing up?" and then I remembered the whole six-feet thing.
Best work email you got since all this started.
Mark Moll emailed and asked if I wanted to be part of this series.
An aha! moment since all this started.
I need to start posting helpful and/or insightful Covid-19 content, because everything has been pretty much done already.
What's your theory on how this is going to play out?
I think Bill Gates will start going door-to-door attempting to micro-chip everyone (ID2020), but I will be hiding in my car listening to '80s music.
