Kyle MacLachlan Gets Freakishly Silly for Arby's Potato Cakes
There's silly, extremely silly ... and then there's the level of transcendent brand-boosting stupidity Kyle MacLachlan attains while trumpeting the limited-time return of Arby's potato cakes.
You haven't lived until you've watched the beloved Twin Peaks and Portlandia star drop to his knees in a field, clutch some freaky glowing artifact, and bellow, as if possessed: "They're back! Potato cakes are back!"
Doesn't remind us of the surreal stylings of a certain '90s TV show at all.
If that first ad wasn't foolish enough, behold Kyle draped in flowing robes and bling:
He's got a cult following, after all.
Cheesy in the best possible way, this overcooked, oddball approach just rocks.
"I'm proud to enlighten all potato cakes lovers about the return of our cherished menu item," Kyle says in campaign materials. "We've been waiting three long years, and our voices have finally been heard. Potato cakes are back at Arby's thanks to the Powers that Beef!"
Even that canned quote is tacky, right down to the excess capitalization. Mad respect.
Developed with Fallon and JHF Productions director Emma Debany, the push will run across digital and social.
True believers might want to shell out for merch, like candles, T-shirts and hoodies:
